Surrey Central Brew Pub & Restaurant |
|
The Irish Heather Gastropub This is what all Irish pubs abroad should be - simple, many nooks and crannies, a good beer selection and hearty staple food. I was first brought here by an Irish friend living in Vancouver, as a place he recommended. I think that is a clear indication of its appeal as an Irish pub. Located in Gastown, it provides a friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere with its clientele ranging from the student to the executive. The food menu is reasonably priced and offers a good Irish fare such as stews and bangers and mash. they also boast to sell the second largest amount of Guinness in Canada! There is plenty of seating both on the ground level and on the second floor. During the summer, they even have an outdoor area in the back. This is a pub where you can go after work, during lunch or on weekends and expect to feel at home. - Emma C. |

Six Acres It is just a coincidence that my second review is within stumbling distance from my first...or is it? This bar is definitely an asset to Gastown. Situated in the Alhabra Hotel, Vancouver's oldest brick building, its brick walls, wooden floors, quirky decor and large windows overlooking the Gassy Jack statue, is sure to allur. but, to me, the most appealing aspect of the Six Acres is the bar menu. comprised of beer, wine, whiskey, rum, etc. from all over the world bound whimsically inside various old hardback books. It means that you can drink around the world without having to leave your bar stool. The menu also offers dinner and snacks but Six Acres' true specialty lies in the drinks. This is a good place to go with friends on any night of the week or even to impress out-of-towners with its worldly varieties. - Emma C. |
